To soften the edges of an image in Photoshop, you can follow these steps:

1. Open your image in Photoshop.
2. Select the Rectangular Marquee Tool or the Elliptical Marquee Tool from the Toolbar or press M.
3. Choose the shape that matches your photo, e.g. rectangle for a square photo or ellipse for a round photo.
4. Drag the tool over the area of your photo that you want to soften.
5. Go to Select > Modify > Feather and enter a value for the feather radius. This will blur the edges of your selection.
6. Press Ctrl+J to copy the selection to a new layer.
7. Hide or delete the original layer.
